Christ
in the Old Testament
Introduction

The person and character of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ cannot be portrayed by any one type or shadow in the Old
Testament, but by the sum of them, we can have a good understanding of him. Our
Lord reveals himself to us in several offices, including our Great High Priest,
our Savior, our Creator, as King of Kings, God incarnate, and heir to the
throne of David. He begins with the very
first phrase to tell us of himself, and his eternal existence by simply stating
“In the beginning God”. By the precise use of names which have a meaning, and
stories that reveal to us how the lost and ruined race of Adam can relate to a
just and holy God, the Old Testament certifies the story of Jesus, and the
teachings of the New Testament. Let us never imagine that Adam’s sin sent God
scrambling to salvage his creation, and that Christ’s death was in reaction to
mans deeds. The fall of man was known to God when the slow progression of time had
not begun, and the “everlasting covenant” settled in the immutable counsel of
Heaven before there was a man to need a Savior. The purpose of this writing is
to explore some of the ways in which the Lord teaches us His wonderful work of
redemption, and how He has never deviated from that plan through the entire
history of human existence. My wish is that the reading of it will bring you to
a deeper knowledge of Gods love.
